Happy New Year!

Welcome back! Hope you had a great semester break.
Main agenda for January 5th:

  • Registration
  • Parents-Teachers Conference

Agenda details of the day:

  • PARENTS:
    • 10:15am – Registration will commence.
    • 10:30am to 11:30am – Parents of PurvGomti, Gomti and Kaveri will have group conference with teachers.
    • 10:45am to 11:30am – Parents of Narmada, Krishna, SindhuVarta, and Ganga will have individual meeting with teachers.
    • Note:
      • If you had not paid for the year, please make payments for the semester
      • School will be closing at 11:30 – There will be no quiz and no culture class on Jan 5.
  • CHILDREN:
    • 10:15am to 11:30am – PurvGomti, Gomti, and Kaveri children will assemble in a room and watch a program.
    • 10:15am to 10:45am – Narmada, Krishna, SindhuVarta, Ganga children will go to their class.
    • 10:45am to 11:30am – Narmada, Krishna, SindhuVarta, Ganga children will assemble in a room to watch a program.

Snacks will be provided

Volunteering opportunity for the holidays

Volunteers are needed to wrap Christmas presents for families in need.  We may add more dates, so will keep you posted.

Seva Day

HARI SCHOOL SEVA DAY

WHEN: Sunday, Nov. 17, from 10am to 1pm.
WHERE: Federal Hill House, 9 Courtland St., Providence, RI-02909
WHY: Our HARI School faculty, parents and students will work together for the better service of those less fortunate than us through a school-wide day of service.
WHAT: We will gather at Federal Hill House and assemble 300 Thanksgiving baskets.

There will be no regular classes offered this Sunday, we encourage ALL families to serve.
This is not a child drop-off event, every student must be accompanied by at least one parent to volunteer.

Agenda:

10 AM: Families arrive. There is ample parking available, Federal Hill House Parking lot and as well as the street parking. All are assigned an area to work.
10-11 AM: Younger children will be supervised as they color Thanksgiving cards, middle age children will prep bags to hold the donated food, and older students with adults will move cases of food and prepare the assembly area.
Snack area will be available with drinks & snack for everyone.
11 AM-12 Noon Bags will be filled in almost an assembly line. Younger children will be paired with a parent or adult. Our goal is to fill 300 bags for families to get to celebrate their Thanksgiving meal!
Ongoing another small group will prepare 60 sandwiches and bagged lunches to distribute for Crossroads which assists homeless people.
12 Noon: Pizza lunch will be served to everyone. Guests will speak to us about hunger in Rhode Island and the work of Federal Hill House.
1 PM: Cleanup and service ends for the day.

Things to remember:
  • Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes (no open toe shoes)!
  • Students in need of community service hours for school must bring their form with them and it will be filled out and signed.
  • Tasks of the day will be age appropriate so all ages can help and provide service.
  • We are still accepting more $10 Stop & Shop gift cards feel free to donate more if you can!
  • Families MUST sign up so we know if you are attending. If you have not yet signed up please email event coordinator Elli Israni at israni4@Verizon.net with your family name and a count of who will attend, or any additional questions. Thank you for your ongoing support of HARI School!

HARI School Diwali Mela 2013!

HARI School is proud to present Diwali Mela 2013!

Location: Alumni Hall, 194 Meeting Street, Providence, on Brown campus
Date: November 10th, 2013
Time: 3-7:30 PM
Cost: Free to students and parents, guests & other family $10 per person

RSVP: Must RSVP by Nov. 3rd to the email sent home. If you did not receive the email or received duplicates please let Hari organizers know. Please RSVP for any guests you will be bringing. This allows us to be able to accommodate Diwali bhoj for such a large crowd.

This is a fun school-wide celebration for your children and the entire family. We encourage you to arrive for the opening at 3 pm to be able to partake in both snack as well as viewing the six culture stalls featuring activities and work done by your children.

We hope you will join us!

HARI SCHOOL FOOD DRIVE and SEVA DAY

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming events for HARI Students and Parents. These are aimed at fostering community engagement and encouraging social responsibility.

Oct 20th – Nov 17th – HARI Thanksgiving Food Drive

Students will collect nonperishable food items for making Thanksgiving Baskets to benefit needy families in our local community. Our goal for this year is to collect food items to make 50 baskets. Food collection bins will be place each Sunday at the Third World Center and at the Diwali Event. Please be on a lookout for Food Drive Flyer for details on food needed and other instructions.

Sunday, November 17th @ 10 am – 1 pm HARI SEVA DAY

For our first “SEVA” or Community Service Day, HARI school will meet at Federal Hill House, 9 Courtland Street, Providence to make and deliver Food Baskets to the needy families so they can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving. There will be no school instruction that Sunday giving students, parents, and faculty an opportunity to serve together in a common community spirit.

Registration is open for Hindi Manch’s Talent Show on March 24th

Namaskaar,

There is a great opportunity to have your kids (or kids you know) learn Hindi Language and get exposed to Hindi culture in the form of Hindi Manch’s next event “Baal evam Yuva Manch”. This is a talent show for children (ages 5–21 years) in the Hindi language where they can perform in small skits, poetry reciting, group songs or any other item where the kids will speak in Hindi from stage..

Kids can perform on Hindi Manch stage in this event and while they prepare for their performances, they will get many opportunities to learn about the language and culture. Kids learn fast in a group which is why we are allowing only group performances for the event. If you cannot find a group for your kids (or kids you know) then let us know and we can help you in forming the group.

Registration will be closed on January 26th – last time we received many more entries than we could accommodate and had to refuse many entries so please send in your entry as soon as you can..

Please find below some key information about the event

1: The performance should be in Hindi language. The event will be on March 24th 2013 between 2 and 5 pm.. Venue is still under discussion but it will be close to Lexington/Boston/Framingham areas.

2. Only group performances are allowed and each performance should be under 10 minutes.

3. Groups should have minimum 8 kids – If you cannot find a group for your kids (or kids you know) then connect with us and we will help you in forming the group.

4. Registration fee $5 per participant – Once you give you entry, someone from our group will send you a link to pay..

5: Please send us details of your item including the following:

A) Name and contact information including email B) Nature of your item – a paragraph summarizing details of your item and C) names of performers.

End of Sememster Information

The first semester is coming to close on Dec 16. The events for that day are as follows:
 1.  No quiz that day
2.  Exam for children from 10:30 to 11:15. See Exam Information
3.  Parent- teacher meeting 11: 15 – 12:30 (one to  one basis)
4.  Children will watch movie and have pizza from 11:15 – 12:30
5.  12:30 closure
6.  No gift swapping this year
